Nail Surgery
Nail surgery is often recommended when:
- You suffer from recurrent ingrown toenails that do not respond to conservative care.
- Infection is present around the nail bed.
- You are experiencing persistent pain, swelling, or difficulty wearing shoes.
- A fungal nail infection has caused severe nail damage.
By removing just the problematic section of the nail, we eliminate the cause of the issue while preserving the natural look and function of your toenail. In some cases, a full nail removal may be advised, especially if fungal infection is widespread.
What should you expect from the procedure
- Local anaesthetic – the area is numbed completely, so the procedure can be carried out pain-free.
- Partial or full nail removal – this depends on the severity of the condition.
- Application of antifungal or chemical agents – used when necessary to prevent regrowth or reinfection.
- Aftercare and redressing – we will provide you with a few dressings to change the dressing at home following advice given along with your aftercare leaflet. A follow up review is not always required however, this may be necessary depending on the assessment prior to the procedure being carried out.
