What is Verrutop?
Verrutop is a professional, non-invasive topical treatment for warts and verrucae (plantar warts) that uses a patented Nitrizinc Complex® to dehydrate and “mummify” the tissue, usually leading to painless removal in 3–6 sessions. It is applied by registered podiatrists on various warts, with a 90% efficacy rate.
Key Aspects of Verrutop
- Mechanism: It induces a chemical reaction that denatures viral protein, causing the wart to change color (white/grey/yellow) and detach from the healthy skin.
- Application: It is a professional-only product (not for home use) applied by a podiatrist after debriding (removing) the hard, dead skin on top of the verruca.
- Painless/Low Risk: Unlike cryotherapy (freezing) or acids, Verrutop is generally painless, causes no scarring, and does not require local anesthetic.
- Suitability: Suitable for children (over 6) and adults, and effective on difficult-to-treat warts.
- Contraindications: Not recommended for pregnant/breastfeeding individuals, patients with diabetes (peripheral neuropathy), on the face, or on inflamed/mucous membranes. Not suitable for children under the age of 5 years old.
Treatment Process
- Typically requires 3 to 6 sessions, with applications spaced 1-2 weeks apart.
- Patients are required to apply alcohol to the area daily to help continue to dry the tissues out after Verrutop is applied.
- The procedure is quick, with little to no downtime afterward.
Disclaimer: Verrutop is only available for professional use, such as to registered Podiatrists and Foot Health Practitioners.
Patients should be aware that success is not gusranteed for every Patient and should discuss any concerns with their Podiatrist before commencing treatment.
